Introduction to Music Therapy

This course is aimed for individuals who are interested in becoming a music therapist and want to know more about the work and skills required.

This course will cover

• Music therapy concepts and theories
• Case sharing
• Clinical improvisation
• Clinical song writing
• Supportive music imagery
• Neurological music therapy

Please note this is an introductory course.

Completing this course will not gain professional music therapy credentials.

Ms. Carol Cheung is a UK Registered Music Therapist , founder of Music For Life Music Therapy Centre. Carol specialises in mental health and wellness, stress, depression and anxiety in particular for both community and medical setting. This includes patients going through cancer rehabilitation and palliative care. Carol believes in evidence-based research and hopes to promote this field by conducting more local studies. She co-led a medical pilot study recently that involves using singing as a tool to relief stress for post-natal mothers. The study shows that postnatal mothers who were engaged in the tailored lullaby singing program were able to lower their anxiety level to a significant level compared to the control group where no music was involved. Apart from clinical setting and research, Carol also participates in community work with children of all abilities, emotional support services for teenagers and working adults.
